I have this funky Beetle Bugs lampshade for sale. I had it made as to decorate my stand at the quilt show.

It is a unique hand made piece and comes with a vintage wooden base. I'm selling it for $140.00 including the base plus delivery. If you are in Sydney the delivery is $9.00. You can pay over the phone by ringing me on 02 8060 1860.

It just casts the best light and is so happy to look at. Maybe, just maybe you might like for yourself?

Introducing my first silk scarf

Saffron Craig - Tuesday, July 19, 2011
I'm very excited to introduce to you to my first silk scarf. I love silk, it's so tactile, it shines and it loves ink. The way it absorbs colours has always been endlessly fascinating to me.

Silk has the same thermal qualities of wool, making it lovely and warm to wear. It's easy to care for, you can hand wash it and dries so easily. And its texture is so luxurious, you feel a million dollars when you're wearing silk.

Years ago I used to hand paint silk all day and I loved it. Having the power to choose the colours for each piece of white fabric. I'd blend beautiful hues and watch them as they adhered to the silk. I never tired of the task.

Silk and I have been lifelong friends and now with so many advances in technology, I am finally able to pursue all the ideas I had 10 years ago.

So I'm starting with this beautiful scarf. Printed in lovely silvery tones with magenta and many shades from purples to greys.  I've been wearing it constantly since my first sample arrived a month ago. I had a dozen or so to sell at the quilt show and they were very popular and sold out in 3 days!

I believe everyone should own a designer scarf. And it doesn't have to be Hermes, it could be Saffron Craig! I'm hoping you feel the same. If this is a success there will be lots more to follow.

How lovely is it that people take the time to email me.
I love receiving emails like this, it gives meaning to my work.

Hello Saffron,
I thought that you may like a photo of the play quilt that I finished last night for my grandchild that is expected on Sunday.
Regards Nina

Ohhh, so a little baby boy might already be with us.

Thanks Nina, what a lovely quilt. How sweet are the wee Owls, such attention to detail.

Puppy dog quilt

Saffron Craig - Friday, July 15, 2011
This sweet quilt is for a new born little girl, a family friend. I sketched a few ideas for this quilt, however the puppy dog really wanted to be appliqued onto this quilt. So that was the start and the imaginary flowers added themselves to become this lovely purple and lavender quilt and it grew from there.

We caught the last rays of sun lighting up North Head in Sydney harbour on this chilly afternoon.

To give the quilt a childish feel I made a cardboard template of a circle, which I traced and then hand stitched around so it looks like bubbles.

While most of it is hand stitched I used the stitch-in-the-ditch technique to stabilise the quilt.

I wonder if anyone would like me to write up a pattern and put together a kit? I thought it might be a great beginners quilt. It uses a few techniques like applique, strip piecing and sashing.

Fabrics I used are from the Imaginary Flowers range, some Magic Spot and the pink Puppy Softie. For the binding I used the popular Beetle Wings.

Art Gallery of NSW sculpture making workshop

Saffron Craig - Thursday, July 07, 2011
One of my favorite things to do is to visit art galleries.
Last week my daughter and I met a couple of friends and went along see the new wing of the NSW art gallery. The art was donated by philanthropist John Caldor. Awesome. Everything about being at a philanthropist appeals to me. So much goodness to do in the world.

My little one did a workshop, which included touring and discussing the contemporary art. Later the children took their inspirations to make a sculpture.

The Spaceship

The sculpture aptly called The Spaceship came home with us, though alas it was picked up by the howling wind and flew through the air, dodged the traffic, brushed a jogger and was finally stopped by a kind spirit who asked, "is this yours?"
I guess it's to be expected when you build a spaceship...

Only slightly damaged it safely made it home on the ferry and was swiftly painted fluoro pink. Just like me she loves colour.

Imaginary Flowers—3 things made by you

Saffron Craig - Tuesday, July 05, 2011
I have been catching up on my blogging and have found some great ideas and links I thought I would share with you.

So, big thanks to the following three crafty ladies for being so creative with my Imaginary Flowers fabrics:

1. A striking quilt top made by Kate Conklin. Kate thoughtfully brought it to Sydney with her last week so I could display it on our stand at the Craft and Quilt show.

You can read more about Kate's designing here.

2. Cool bags made by Nicole Mallalieu, authour of You Sew Girl.
If you came to my workshop last week you would have got to see and touch them, or perhaps you saw them on Nicole's stand? She was the busiest stand in the show as far as I can tell.

Nicole is going to display these two awesome bags at GJ's Discount Fabrics in Brunswick Melbourne. Along with her range of  bag patterns and the Infinity Flowers fabrics. If you are lucky enough to live at visiting distance you can get up close with them.

I love the detail on the Infinity Flowers.

Nikki also made a bag featuring the Tree Pods. A favorite of my designs. Such a groovy bag.

3. The lovely Nova made aprons from the entire range of Imaginary Flowers.

All the fabrics from the Imaginary Flowers range are available right here for you to enjoy. Such a versatile range I am thinking.

If you are making things with my fabrics please don't be shy and share them with me on my facebook page or on Flickr. It's rewarding and inspiring for me to see what you're all sewing, creating and crafting.

What is your latest project?
