Come And Join Me At The Sydney Craft Fair June 22-26 At Darling Harbour

Saffron Craig - Thursday, June 09, 2011

Four years ago I launched Saffron Craig at the Sydney Craft Fair. Now for the first time since, I’m exhibiting again.  I’ve spent three years working hard to reach the wholesale market, but this year I’m hankering to reach people who buy and use my fabrics, who can see the work that goes into each design. I want people to come and visit me, see and touch my fabric, comment on styles, talk about ideas for how they can use them and (hopefully) tell their friends.

So…please come and visit me at my stand!

The Craft & Quilt Fair is on from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.

And I’m at:
Saffron Craig Stand K48, the last row near the cafe and quilt exhibition. Easy to find.

What I’m looking forward to:
Patrick (gorgeous better half) and I are hosting a workshop at 9.30 am on Wednesday 22nd (opening the show). There is ample seating for 60. Jeez. Don't let me be the only one please.

It’s a meet and greet with ideas on what to make with my fabrics.  I can’t wait to showcase my fabrics and help people to get creative with them.

Fabulous Neighbours
We’re all there for 5 days, so it’s lucky I have great neighbours on row K!

A few of the best:

Row K is looking like a great place to start your visit to the craft with so many fabulous stands.  The whole fair sounds pretty exciting and I’m looking forward to getting a chance to mix in with so many talented and creative souls.

Plus, just one more thing…

Have also been showcased as an exhibitor who's ”hot at the fair”! This is a huge honour, have a look here. Also featured is the fabulous Toni Coward.

Book your tickets here, I can’t wait to see you there.  I will have six tickets to give away next week or so, please be sure to check back for that blog post.

Did I mention I'm cutting up a lot of my fabric so it will be easy for you to shop? I mean a lot.

Are you planning on coming to the Sydney Craft Fair?

Blocking the fabrics

Saffron Craig blocking fabrics

Saffron Craig blocking fabrics

It helps to have a little helper to fold the fabrics and then block the fabric onto boards. She loves it as much as I do.
In return I pick her up from school. Usually I am the first Mummy to arrive—or there are tears—and we come home to eat pancakes or freshly popped pop corn.

What a fabulous helper. I often wonder whether my little two will grow up to be little helpers too....knowing my luck I'll end up with two tom-boys!

What wonderful fabrics! Seeing you spread them out down the hall reminds of the days when I made my daughter dresses with ruffles so long, the only way I could put them together was to lay them out down the hall ;). Blessings, GG

Introducing Imaginary Flowers - my new fabric range is here

Saffron Craig - Wednesday, June 01, 2011
What a week! It was my birthday on Tuesday and I'd like to thank everyone for your lovely comments and well wishes, it was a splendid day.

To make the week even better I've received my new fabric range - the Imaginary Flowers - and it's all ready for you to get your busy little hands on.

As you may know I've received some samples a few weeks ago and I just love working with these new fabrics. I'd say they're my most mature range yet and there's a bit of everything in it.

A chunky stripe, a floating floral, a small repeat, a big fun spot and a large scale imaginary flower.
And the colours turned out to be just so delectable; rich purple and plum, my special green and soft greys on a warm vanilla background.

The range is named after the simple and graphic Imaginary Flowers design, which I drew one night in my sketchbook.
The flower carried through to the large scale Infinity Flowers and is complemented by the delicate floral pattern of the Floating Flowers. The Lean-to-Stripe adds texture to the range while the Spots and Bubbles are bold and fun, great for fussy cutting.

I've already sewn up a quilt, made some clothes for my daughter and my 2 new lampshades have just arrived. Geez, I have been busy!

Can't wait to see what you'll make with the Imaginary Flowers!

My Birthday today

Saffron Craig - Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Today I am a year older. Usually I make a big deal out of my birthday, I get my friends together, drink, eat and have a merry time.

But birthdays should only ever fall on a Saturday, Tuesdays ergh, everyone is so serious mid week, me included.

This year I think I need to let it slide by.   No fuss, no mess.

So…how then?

I might eat paella with my Mum for lunch at her favourite restaurant.

Then

I might eat chocolate fondue with Sequoia after school.

Right, that’s food sorted out.

I might see Pirates of the Caribbean at the cinema… but is Sequoia to young to watch it with me?  (Go away Mummy guilt, it’s my birthday)

Or I might take a moment, grab a quilt and lie in the park watching the sun glow orange against the autumn leaves…except it’s predicted to rain.

OR

I might completely pretend like it’s not happening.  Because…

I feel like I celebrated my birthday when my Mum turned 70 a few weeks ago and we spent a week on the Gold Coast with the entire family. A huge event!  I never thought she would live so long, now she is 70. I think she will make 80.

Me and mum, I had just gotten out of the surf. My Brothers peace symbol.

And I don’t need any more presents.  Because…

Patrick bought me a hand knitted beanie with matching scarf, from Beatie Lancer in Fairlight. As it so cold I asked him for it a few weeks ago.

Mum bought me a 100 year old Chinese hat box which will replace the awful plastic box which has pride of place in my home, having housed my threads for years. I put it on lay-by it a week ago. I wanted it for my birthday last year and having spent the entire year searching for and not finding a similar one for less money, I decided it’s the one for me.

Sequoia made me a card and gave me a gold star. Cause I am a good mummy…And I am, actually J.

So…Happy Birthday me.

The Exciting Journey Of A Little Bug Into The Big World.

Saffron Craig - Monday, May 30, 2011
Inspiration for a boys fabric design came upon me one day as I played in the garden with my daughter and her best friend Matisse, investigating the wonderful world of bugs (no squeamishness allowed, but watch out for funnel webs).

The result is my “beetle bug” fabric, a gorgeous muted palette of bug inspired patterns.

And it looks like this humble little bug has a bright future.

After contacting my good friend and well known blogger in crafty circles, Nicole Vos van Avezathe from Follow The White Bunny about a possible collaboration, she used my sweet buggy design for an embroidery pattern…my first!  It’s had a great response from her followers, who are imagining it embroidered on pillowcases and book bags.

Have a look at her clever efforts here.

Look out for the downloadable pattern…coming soon.

Nicole also interviewed me on her blog.  And during the interview she said:

“To me, Beetle Bugs is one of the most stylish and original lines of fabric for kids that I have seen in recent years.”

Thanks Nicole, I’m blushing!  Read the rest of the interview here.

Excited by the possibilities ahead, thrilled by being able to collaborate with talented people at the top of their game and inspired by such a warm reception of my fabrics, I wish you all a wonderful day.

A gift from a friend—Citrus Pop vintage goodness

Saffron Craig - Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Lucky me, look what I received in the post today. Hand made by the wonderful Toni Coward who, apart form making great patterns and being a published author, also makes the coolest vintage accessories. Toni used fabrics from three of my ranges to make this amazing necklace. I am so touched.

Vintage Necklace by Toni Coward with Saffron Craig fabrics

You can buy more Citrus Pop goodies on made it.
Or read all about Toni on her blog Make It Perfect. I read every word, it is one of my top three blogs.

This is one of her most recent patterns called Wonderland using my Magic Spot. Don't we all want more wonderland in our lives?

Thanks Toni. You are one in a million.

What a precious gift. It's such a cute focus on your fabrics details. I like the way the little bird is smelling a flower. I bet you wear this all the time! The photo of the little girl is so sweet too!
