Sunday Sounds- Sigur Rós- Inni

Saffron Craig - Sunday, November 20, 2011

Sunday I had a dawn surf to beat the crowds,  danced around in the sunshine feelin' the Summer vibe.

Scrubbed the car, it sparkled and then it rained and I thought why?

Organized and delivered all my treasures to be couriered to Melbourne. The Australian Quilt Market in Melbourne is four days away. I am excited.

This is a live album by Sigur Rós- Inni, I have been enjoying it this week. Hope you do as well. You can tell me when we next meet, if you like?

Some great Christmas sewing tutorials and ideas

Saffron Craig - Friday, November 18, 2011

Friday finds me thinking about what I am sewing for Christmas and here are some great tutorials I have been reading.

I so want to be organized for Christmas this year. I want to make it a special one as I am hosting the family. I have been posting all my favourite images on my pinterest board called Christmas.

Although this video on making fabric balls is from last year I really want to give it a go. I first saw it on Meet me at Mikes and  was reminded of it again on Poppytalk. It is so sweet.

Pom poms are top on my list. I love this tutorial.

I am imagining that I make 10 large ones in red and hang them over my dining room table.

I do love trees and I think fabrics trees are going to make everything so festive. I could make a park for the mantle with some white cushion infill around them to make us think of snow.

Thanks to Lemon Tree creations for the tutorial. You can watch it here.

How about some star place mats for the table? And a table runner from my Tree Pods in red, which will be vailable next week or so.

This would look lovely on my door frames. The children will be delighted. Here's a tutorial on how to make it.

So if you come knocking on my door hopefully you will find one of these hanging on it. Mine will be in red.

As a handmade gift idea for my daughter and nieces I am inspired to make a version of this dolls quilt  from the book Pretty Patchwork Quilts Little Stitch

Thanks to Anella and her blog comfort stitching. Though mine will have to have a dog. The family is just dog crazy.

Christmas is a great time to get crafty. Can you feel how excited I am?

Cockatoo Island: Outpost project 2011 is all about Street Art

Saffron Craig - Wednesday, November 16, 2011

The Cockatoo Island Street Art exhibition captured our imaginations last weekend.

It's great to see so much freedom with colour and a spray can. Great graphics and ideas.

Children were involved in building a cardboard city.

My daughter wanted to create a petrol station for all the cars.  Which developed into a corner shop.

I noticed there were no trees so I added some pink cardboard ones. I had dreams of making a park...

The T-shirt exhibition was great, interviews with all kinds of creatives asking their opinions on the humble Tee.

I was intrigued by the optimism and opinions.

Seriously envious of this girl's hand crocheed cape. I took a snap. Hope you don't mind.

The tunnel was full of cool street art. Dark in there and atmospheric.

Our mode of transport. Zip zip. As it's street art its all about wheels.

The icon of most Street or Skater art is the scull. I never thought I would put one on my blog but they brought the house with it, which in my option makes it remarkable.

More information can be read here.

Sunday Sounds-Pj Harvey

Saffron Craig - Sunday, November 13, 2011
I am pretty excited because the Sydney Festival guide appeared in my mail box on Monday. Wow so much to see. I rearranged my life to be able to sit on the phone and the internet at 9 am to purchase tickets as they went on sale. I managed to buy all the tickets I was after and with in 20 minutes I had seats!! Yay. January is going to be amazingly entertaining. Pj Harvey, Beth Orton and Holly Throsby we are coming to see you.

So as I haves shared with you snippets of these amazing gals in my past Sunday Sounds I thought I should share some Pj Harvey with you. I have been listening to Pj for a decade now; so much music and her new album has been going round and around my iTunes all week. Her lyrics are so poetic and powerful. What a lady.

This one is off her latest album.

I hope to see this side of her as well.

You are so fortunate to live where such beauties grow! Thank you for sharing :)

The jacarandas up here in Glebe have been wonderful. I keep forgetting to take the real camera with me and now it has been raining for a day and the blossoms are falling with the rain! Hopefully there will be some left - terrace houses and jacarandas are
a match made in heaven (except for the root problem).

Friday Finds - New Designs for Mida and a giveaway

Saffron Craig - Friday, November 04, 2011

These are some designs I did for Mida, a boys wear label. Janet's design philosophy is to create clothes for boys that are, well, boyish and fun; sized from 1- 6. I think they look quite different from anything else out there. I bought last season's range my sister's boy and she loved them.

The current range is inspired by her son Thomas's and his love for trains (yep real name and I think quite fortuitous). Thomas has lots and lots of trains that he can happily play with for hours. His love of trains has helped bond with his dad who also loves creating tracks and choo-choo games with him.

Using the inspiration of Thomas's love for  trains Janet asked me to design these fabrics for Mida inspired by trains and my Snails and Ladder print while using strong Mida colours blue and red. I am really pleased with the result.

We chose the bottom left as the most successful design with a twilight feel. The second on the bottom was chosen for the jeans as the colours look great against denim.

They look great as shorts. So much fun.

The Range consists of four pieces.

Midnight Express cotton twill shorts
Train Track hemmed knit denim jeans
Train Track detail pocket knit denim pull-on pants
Train pj's.

You can buy them online here and at selected retail outlets.

We are lucky enough to offer you a give-away. For a chance to get all 4 pieces for free—being a set of pj's, 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of pants  as well as a pair of Midnight Express shorts valued at $120.00—all you need do is leave your name and email address below. Please make sure you confirm your email address by clicking on the link you'll receive in an email.

Wow how generous it that. The winner will be chosen on the 12th of November.

My son is obsessed with trains too. I am currently in hospital after having emergency surgery and he drew a train track and brought some trains in so i could play with them while recovering.

Yep, trains! trains trains trains.... gotta love them.. Your designs are yet again gorgeous. My son is obsessed with Thomas, but I draw the line at dressing him in corporate motif garbage. Thank you for making it easy to keep both myself and my son happy.

I wish Mida would consider making these shorts in larger sizes say up to size 12, so my son can grow in with the brand. Another wonderful design from Saffron! Yay! I love that dark blue colour one! Wish it comes in bed sheets too ...

Happy Birthday Patrick

Saffron Craig - Thursday, November 03, 2011

Wishing my wonderful husband the happiest bestest Birthday ever.

He is special to me. He traveled half way around the world to build a life with me and our daughter. He is my calmness. My support.

So we spoiled him with breakfast in bed. A walk on the beach.

I have organized a pod of dolphins to swim by and a whale to spout, such is the time of year.. Sunshine too. A day of such fun. Celebration. Magic. The Jacarandas are blossoming and the world outside our home is purple.

.

I bought him the biggest mango I could find, which is his favourite fruit, and other treats like Swiss chocolates.

Also a scooter to commute on. Yes he now has to go to an office in the city, at least it is on the harbour.

On his new scooter he keeps up with the bikes and comes home grinning like a boy. Yep we gave the scooter to him a bit early, he also gains an extra 30 minutes with us so we are grinning too.

Riding the scooter turned into a family affair.

Happy birthday Patrick. This is the 14th time I have wished you so. He thinks I have wished him Happy Birthday more than anyone else he knows. How nice is that?
