Sunday was a busy day making things with my new fabrics. Besides covering a kid's stool and making fabric covered backs for a book case — photos to follow— I've started a new quilt and designed some blocks using my new Bird Tree fabric range.
One of my favourite things is to cut into new fabrics. I lay it out on the cutting mat and just CUT INTO IT! How liberating.
The Bird Tree was fussy cut into 6" squares and then I played with pattern on pattern. It is exciting how these colours interact when they're placed next to each other. As the green and purple are nearly complimentary colours and the strong contrast makes the pattern on pattern style work really well.

The Tree Garden is like working with 3 fabrics. Do you like how the black bird pattern forms a stripe?

I've sewn 6 blocks so far and am contemplating to put grey around the blocks. Have you made a similar quilt before? Any suggestions on colours to go with these are appreciated!

Love them! The contrast of the fabrics is really nice. My favorite thing to do is to cut into fabric too. I have made a similar quilt and I like the idea of adding a solid grey around each block. The grey seems to slow down the "busy-ness" of each block by giving the eyes a place to rest.
I can't wait to see how these blocks look together...
Jennifer :)
