Daphny

Saffron Craig - Monday, July 06, 2009
My mother in law Daphny has made us beautiful quilts, which I refer to a lot for their technique. These are two she has made for her Blossom, Windmills because what little girl would not like a Hollandish quilt with windmills on. Patrick and I chose a lot of the fabrics for this quilt and posted them over to her–this was before I thought of designing my own fabrics. I chose Aboriginal art inspired fabrics, emu footprints and yellow as we did not know at that stage if we were having a girl or a boy. She has done such a stunning job, hand stitched quilting and so perfectly neat.

The second Quilt Butterflies is entirely hand stitched, it is absolutely beautiful. It is 2 by 2.5 meters. So vast- what love. It is made up of smaller blocks hand paper-pieced. Both of these quilts are used every single day, what an inspiration. She accidentally sent it by sea mail and we thought it was lost then 4 months later it arrived. I cried when I laid my hands on it. Sequoia sleeps under it every night.

Daphny taught me all the quilting techniques I know, paper piecing, block piecing, basting, quilting, and gave me a book which I follow for other techniques. So as I start to pack up her goodies to take with me to Holland I wanted to share a piece of Daphny with you. So far the package is 10 kilograms. Amazing woman I can't wait to see you.

And we'd love to see some photos of those quilts - they sound beautiful. Was this post meant to include pics? For they are not showing for me.
