Fabric selvedge’s, a fun project

Saffron Craig - Thursday, April 08, 2010
I did a lot of cutting up of fabrics this week. The various scraps were piled up to sort through later. As I was sorting through them, wondering which to throw out and which to keep—I am very good at keeping!—I randomly placed the selvages together and had an aha moment. I remembered that I have seen wonderful things made using selvages, like in Down Under Quilts Issue 138.

I have started to sew them together and will keep adding all my discarded selvages to this piece and who knows where it will go? Have you used selvages in any of your projects?

Here's an absolutely gorgeous selvedge quilt done by the President of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild, Jacquie Gehring - how awesome is this?? http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/2010/03/artistry-passion-collaboration.html. And the quilting by Angela is stunning. Enjoy!

Hi, Saffron: Yes, I LOVE selvages. In fact, I'm starting an etsy shop with items made from selvages. And the selvages I have from your fabric, by the way, are like GOLD to me!!! Just thought I would throw that in, in case you really don't know what to do with them, and you want to trade some of your selvages for something like a pincushion--made from your selvages!

that blog post has a picture of my pincushions so let me know if that is something you would be interested in doing!

And I'm starting pattern testing tonight. Woohoo!

hello saffron from wendy at the post office. Your Forest Elementals range looks absolutely beautiful. I look forward to buying some and making something special for myself. Congratulations on finishing the bikram challenge. I am a fellow yogi but as yet not brave enough to do the challenge. regards wendy
