Forest Elementals—my first quilt

Saffron Craig - Wednesday, April 21, 2010
I have finished my first quilt using the Forest Elementals in purple. I wanted to use the Elk landscape as a panel so I planned the quilt around that thought, framing it with two boarders. Its an easy quilt to make. Cutting up the Goose Bubbles and the Birds in Leaves gave me no end of fun. I was also really pleased with the Squiggly Flowers which is using my two favorite colours.. Its quite amazing to mix in all the fabrics together.

I feel like I cheated and got this one long arm machine quilted. I just thought it would really suit an all over pattern. Its going to get a lot of use this quilt. It is going in the soccer bag and will spend the winter on the green grass of the under six soccer matches which are hysterical.

This is one of the biggest quilts I have made and it really was fun. My sister wants one in a king size! She rang and wondered if I would mind as the one I made her for her wedding is the perfect temperature for her to sleep under its just that they bought the biggest bed they could find so her and her husband fight over it. So another project for me.

I love this time of year. Must say I am not out and enjoying it as I should, as school holidays put me way behind with all I wanted to get done. However a few dawn starts and I think I am feeling on top of things. So I am off to the park for some play time.

I really like how the Bird on Leaves works as a backing fabric.

Oh No!

I have just seen your quilt and realise that I have not brought nearly enough fabric, as I now want to make a copy!

Why are all the really good fabrics from Australia and America.

Saffron, do you have any UK stockists?

I'm in love with this quilt, it's fantastic! I love the colours and the design. Do you sell it as a kit like the owl quilt kit?

Wow Saffron, that looks amazing! I don't know how you're going to let the soggy grass at the soccer come anywhere near it! I've been working with some of your fabrics tonight and I just love how fabrics from earlier ranges tie in so well. And I do love the back and the border - that would have to be my favourite fabric, along with the panel - maybe its a tie.
Congratulations on another beautiful, unique range of fabrics.

Saffron, that is fabulous! I was going to order 1/2 yard of each (from fabricworm--sorry but I have to save on postage), but now I must rethink. How much did you use in the border?

Love it - especially the back - that looks really amazing.
The front looks like a story narrative - really lovely!
