In between the different regions are vast areas of land. I really appreciated how huge Australia really is. On those long drives I stopped at some amazingly beautiful places. I also did a lot of walking through the pristine wilderness and deserts and the occasional oasis.

I saw Kata Tjuta the first time from a distance of maybe 100 kilometers. It rose out of a flat desert in lovely bubbly shaped mountains changing with the intensity of the sun. In my heart I knew that I was witnessing a sacred place, especially to me, it is a place that I have returned to many times in my meditations. Kata Tjuta holds a serious place in my heart and its vibration is one of beauty and happiness and translated into this fabric with a playfulness, lots of patternation and bold colours.
Magical Lands consists of six designs: Magical Land, Snowy Woods, Tree Pods, Magical Trees, Magic Spot and Ginkgo Blossoms in green.

Detail of Magical Lands

Snowy Woods—I added the falling snow after being in a blizzard in Perisher Valley winter this year.

Tree Pods is a large scale print of mountains with trees growing on them in a cut-out style. I cannot wait to start using this design!
I loved channeling the essence of Kata Tjuta while I designed and refined these fabrics. The serenity and focus I felt will hopefully translate into the fabrics and then again into the products that you make with this range.
The strike-offs arrived just recently and I was thrilled. I enjoyed every moment of designing this range and it came about quite quickly. It is another bold bright range that really feels very “me” but at the same time it's quite different from what I have previously designed. It comes in a red colourway too and I hope to post a sneak peak of that soon.
This range is due early 2011 and we will be taking pre-orders at the Melbourne Quilt Market next week. I will be sure to send out a newsletter once it is here so if your're not already reading my monthly news you can sign up on the right.
I always value your thoughts so please leave a comment.
Which is your favorite design out of the above? Have you got a story about visiting Kata Tjuta?

OMGolly! This new range is stunning!! The colours are fantasic!! I can see a great skirt being made out of Tree Pods, or curtains!! and of course the fun quilts that could be made with this range! Kata Tjuta is such a special and magical place. I went soon after I'd done a big trip through Europe so I was a bit travel-lagged but Ullaru and Kata Tjuta just blew me away with their beauty and majestic, timeless quality.

I went there in the 1980s - I loved it. I will have to get some of this fabric. The colours are so vibrant. There are some fabulous fabric designers 'down under', and you are one of them Saffron! - so different from here in the stale old 'west'.

Wow Saffron! This fabric range is wonderful!
Such a unique and rich blend of colours and really does have an "Aussie" feeling without being too cliche!
Love it - well done :)

I love the colours in these fabrics. I might have to go shopping later and buy some to make a quilt for my daughters new bedroom. We are in the process of putting on a second storey and in it is my daughters room. After two boys I am dying to decorate her bedroom. I guess I should finish painting it first though!!!! :)

I love the Snowy Woods and Magical Trees, they would make great children's clothes without being horribly Christmassy. Are you doing other colour ranges?

I haven't been there but they remind me of New Zealand where I was in September for the first time. I commented to my husband that if you were going to design a country - it would be New Zealand. Little round hills with wee "toy town" type trees dotted around and all the gazillions of sheep and cows! Gorgeous Saffron!

I love it, having driven post there many times, I can see where your inspiration comes from.
